This
seven-acre community park
expansion was developed to provide much-needed aquatic and
indoor athletic facilities for the community of Folsom.
The 19th century architecture in the historic City influenced the building design. The durable
brick design was carried over into the locker room dry areas
creating an attractive exposed brick wall finish.
This
attention to detail in the Master planned facilities is
also displayed in the:
- Senior
center
- Teen
area
- Triple-wide
gymnasium
- Olympic sized competition swimming pool with moveable
bulkhead
- Activity
pool with water slide and active water play structure
- Training
pool for lessons and water aerobics
- Locker/shower
rooms
- Library
- Classrooms
- Lawn
seating areas
- Curved
shade structure doubles as a solar collection device
As
the
prime consultant for all phases of the project, RJM Design
Group, Inc. facilitated a series of design workshops for
each component of the project ensuring community involvement
and consensus.
The
first phase of construction was completed in 2001 and included
a 50-meter pool, activity pool and training pools and associated
pool buildings and site amenities. An active solar energy harvesting system (photo-voltaic) was designed and installed on a 2,000 s.f. shade canopy and provides enough energy to run a 2 1/2 hp. pump full-time.
The Lembi Aquatic Facility was awarded the 2002 California Parks & Recreation Society Special
Award of Excellence for Facility Design.
Also, Lembi Aquatic Facility received the 2002
Architectural Showcase in "Athletic Business",
Business Magazine for Athletic, Fitness & Recreation
Professionals.
