This
ten-acre master
plan for the City of Patterson provides for an aquatic center
and community/senior center in a planned downtown core development
area. The facilities fit into a network of public plazas,
promenades and a dynamic skate boarding facility.
Facilities
include a senior center, police and sheriff headquarters,
competition pool and recreation pool, amphitheater, playgrounds,
multi-use ball field, library, offices, gymnasium, community
meeting rooms and associated parking area.
Views
to the coastal mountain range are reinforced, and the historic
agrarian influence of apricot orchards become a design element
in the rows of shade trees in the public frontage area.
The functional pedestrian friendly atmosphere encourages walking and bicycle riding in the community, and the utilization of mass transit for front-door drop off.
Energy efficiency is the key to reducing life-cycle costs, so a solar array was custom-designed for the roof top of the large shade structure and pump room. This solar harvesting device significantly reduces the volume of natural gas to heat the pool water. The consultant team provided research and analysis of all forms of alternative energy sources and determined that for Patterson's site in 2002, passive solar was the best long-term solution for cost recovery of initial investment, plus maintenance and replacement costs (life cycle analysis). |
