VENTA SPUR TRAIL
(NARROW)
Irvine, CA

Originally referred to as the NARROW or Northwood Abandoned Railway Right of Way, this 100 ft. wide, 1.4 mile strip was once a part of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway.

In order to work with the relatively flat topography and limited site drainage, a “dry stream bed” concept was developed as a means to collect and control site runoff. A seasonally changing landscape palette was utilized while providing an ease of maintenance through construction techniques and materials.

An 8’ wide meandering walkway/bike trail was designed to minimize the linear shape of the site. Significant berming and planter areas were designed in conjunction with the trail alignment to help promote a variety of user spatial experiences.
