MARGUERITE PARKWAY
Mission Viejo, CA

    Key Elements
  • Maintain Unique Landscape Character
  • Preserve Views
  • Minimize Long Term Maintenance
  • Water Efficient Plant Palette

Marguerite Parkway is a primary street that passes through the heart of the City of Mission Viejo. In some areas, Marguerite Parkway is borderd by massive 2:1 slopes on one side of the street, covering 80-100 feet in width. The challenge of the master slope design was to develop a plant palette that would effectively ‘fit’ the large expanses of 2:1 slope, preserve the unique character of the City’s landscape, and maintain homeowner views of open space, greenbelts, mountains, and Lake Mission Viejo.

The plant palette was determined by the scale of the slopes and the interface between the street and the residential development at the top of the slope. The slopes were divided into the following hierarchial zones: pedestrian/parkway along the streets, mid-slope, and top of slope/high zone. Residential views were preserved by minimizing tree planting at the top of slope and the strategic placement of trees at property line corners.
