Each community has its own pulse consisting of various cultural and environmental nuances. RJM taps into this pulse, as a key element in the design process, via a public workshop process. This process is utilized based on the client's desire and each public workshop is individually designed by RJM to cater to the specific project purpose.

RJM's philosophy for this popular process is that every individual is inherently creative with valuable knowledge and insight into their communities needs and desires. Workshops are interactive including various site tours with questionnaires soliciting the participant to engage their entire senses while examining the environment. Following the tour attendees discuss site characteristics, potential issues and desired facilities. Separate groups are then created and given the opportunity to design a site plan in response to the earlier discussions. As a result of these plans major design goals are discussed and consensus is reached.

RJM's final design and Master Plans are a direct result of the design and input from the community workshop process. This workshop technique is proven to defuse anxieties related to the project as well as reach consensus plans.

Projects and Master Plans developed with public workshops succeed in the long-term because recreation programs and facilities are planned with valuable input by the people who will use them.

This leads to neighborhood awareness, appropriately and community presence in the built parks, increasing usefulness and decreasing undesirable activity in the parks.
